Rebalance Changes
bug-Owns-Fairy.png
sunflora-1.png
  • Many Pokémon have received changes to their stats, typing and abilities. There is a healthy balance between popular fan-made changes as well as our own.
  • Type chart changes; Bug- and Ice-types have received buffs to let them keep up with other types.
  • Certain abilities have had their effect changed to be more useful, such as Swarm now always being active.
  • Certain items have had their effect changed; most Poké Balls are now more straightforward to use or offer different effects.
  • Many evolutions now take place at a more reasonable level or had their method changed; any trade evolutions either require only their respective item or a Linking Cord.
  • Freeze has been changed to work like Frostbite from Legends Arceus.
frostbite.png
sport-Ball-2.png

Quality of Life Changes
fight-Scene.png
dexnav.png
  • No need to teach HMs. Field moves, like Surf, Rock Smash, Dig and Fly, can be used without taking up a move slot.
  • All Trainer battles can be forfeited, and running from wild battles will always succeed.
  • IVs and EVs are visible on the summary screen.
  • Moves and abilities provides more raw information, such as multipliers, target scope, and move categories.
  • All your difficulty settings are visible on the back of your Trainer Card.
  • The Advancepedia, an unlockable add-on for the Pokédex, will give you detailed information on any caught Pokémon such as stats, moves or weaknesses.
  • The DexNav lets you easily search for a specific encounter, with the ability to also search for hidden abilities or with higher shiny odds.
  • A Day-Care that lets you find eggs with specific qualities, like specific gender, hidden abilities or better IVs.
  • Stat changes are visibly displayed during battle.
  • Move effectiveness can be displayed during battle to see how effective your moves are against the opponent.
  • ... And a lot more to make your life much easier.

Welcome to the Solaria region, a region with rich history and a vast and varied landscape. You'll be exploring grassy plains, mystical forests, ruined wastelands, towns of forever fall, magical swamps and much more.

In ancient history, the region was ruled by the Solar King and Sunne Hero. That age has long passed, but their influence can still be felt; it is believed that the cosmic energy of the Sunne Hero still flows through Solaria to this day, influencing the region and granting its Pokémon enhanced strength.

You are a graduate from Gardenia Academy. Having graduated at the top of your class, you have been honourably chosen as a Gym Challenger to partake in the region's traditional Gym Challenge.

Your goal is to obtain all 8 Gym Badges and become the region's prestigious Solar Monarch.

RIVAL-Giltbert.png
giltbert-Challenge-1.png
Giltbert is your childhood friend, classmate and fellow Gym Challenger.

He has a strong positive attitude and is always willing to aid the people around him.

Diana is another Gym Challenger and the top student of your rival class.

She is a bit distant, has a no-nonsense attitude and is serious about her ambitions of becoming the next Solar Monarch.

FAQ

If you have any questions about the game, they might be answered here.
Q: Is the game fully complete?
Yes, the game can be enjoyed completely from start to finish! Future updates will likely only contain small bug fixes, minor adjustments, and perhaps small content updates. But nothing major.

Q: Are there Mega Evolutions? Z-Moves? Dynamaxing? Terastallization?
None of those. Some Pokémon did receive their Typing or Ability from their Mega. But there are no battle gimmicks.

Q: Will all Pokemon be available?
Solaria has a curated regional dex of Pokemon from gens 1-9. While it is possible to obtain Pokemon from outside the regional dex, these are out of the way.

Q: Are there fakemon?
No.

Q: What's the shiny rate?
1/512

Q: Will the game be available in other languages, besides English?
There are currently no plans to translate Solar Eclipse into other languages, as we most likely are not fluent in those languages.

Q: Does the game have controller support?
Not natively, but you can use apps like JoyToKey or AntiMicroX to achieve a similar result.

Q: What are the Starters?
Togepi, Mareep, Trapinch, Spheal, and Sewaddle.

Q: Were can I find a certain item?
Check the documents. It comes with a full list of every item obtainable at every location.

Q: Can I change my Pokémon's nature?
Yes, in Towngor City which is before the 3rd Gym. It will be in Club Trubbish, an area for which you need a password which you can find in the city itself.

Q: Can I change my Pokémon's IVs?
Yes, in the Day-Care in Holtlant Town which can be accessed before the 3rd Gym. There is a maid there who will help you do so.

Q: Where do I grind for Exp and EVs?
In the Day-Care in Holtlant Town which can be accessed before the 3rd Gym. There is a maid there who will help you do so.

Q: Where is the Move Tutor?
In Holtlant Town, which can be accessed before the 3rd Gym. There you can activate a Task to find and gather the Move Tutors. Check the following areas: Jadevik City, Malum City, and Farnlor City.

Q: Can I change the difficulty later?
Yes. Simply talk to the Mystery Man in every Pokémon Center, or the PC in your room, and you can adjust the difficulty to your liking.

Q: Is there some kind of reward or benefit to playing on a harder difficulty?
No, playing on a higher difficulty is just a pride thing. There is no reward for completing the game on a higher difficulty, so don't feel pressured to do so.

Q: How do I solve the Junkar Gym puzzle?
The solution is different every playthrough. You will need to check the bookcases to know which gemstones you need to place. The bookcases on the upper floor corrospond to the 1st and 4th pedestals. The bookcases on the ground floor corrospond to the 2nd and 3rd pedestals.

Q: How do I update the game?
You're going to have to re-download the game. The link will always be of the latest version. After the download is complete, simply replace your existing folder with the new one. Your save files will carry over, as they are stored somewhere else. The only thing you might want to keep a back-up of is the Screenshots folder and TrainerClub folder.

Development Details

Pokémon Solar Eclipse is a Pokémon fangame developed in RPG Maker XP using the Pokémon Essentials v19.1 starter kit and MKXP. This game started development in 2022 by two friends wanting to make something based on an old RP group we had. We originally only wanted to entertain our friend group, but now we hope to deliver a fun and polished experience that captures the same joy we have for this series.

Updated the game to v1.0.1
The download on the OP has been updated to match. This update fixes some bugs that could be encountered in the early game.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed bug where Spikey-Ear Pichu could be obtained multiple times.
  • Fixed inconsistency in Solaria history timeline.
  • Fixed Fling crashing the game if the Pokemon wasn't holding any sort of item.
  • Fixed bug where selecting certain clothing options would not give the Player the Running Shoes.
  • Fixed bug where the Player would change into their Everyday clothes if they didn't select a proper outfit at the start of the game.

Updated the game to v1.0.2
The download on the OP has been updated to match.
This update fixes a few more bugs, as well as adding a few minor additions.

New Features
  • Added a secondary key bind for the movement controls (IJKL). If they don't show up immediately, likely due to already having a save, reset the keybinds to default and they should pop up.
  • Added the PC Storage to the Player's laptop, letting you access it before reaching Helianthus City.
Changes
  • Reduced the number of particles displayed on-screen during Fast performance mode.
  • Added an additional hint given by the Junkar Gym Guide to make it clearer as to what bookshelf corresponds to what pedestal.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed the Exp Share option displaying if Affection was turned On or Off instead of Exp Share being On or Off.
  • Fixed bug during Aelia's first fight where her X Attack didn't work.
  • Fixed battle environment for Myrfield City not being set.
  • Prevented several instances of sequence breaking.

In addition, I've added a FAQ section to the OP to answer some commonly asked questions that might be useful to know before diving into the game.

Why am I having trouble playing with my xbox controller? I tried the F1 to change the controls and it still didn't work. I rarely ever have trouble with playing fangames with a controller. I don't want to use a keyboard and mouse

Very sorry about that. You can try using a program such as JoyToKey or AntiMicroX to get a similar result.

Hello everyone. Could I get some assistance downloading Solar Eclipse? I downloaded the Mega app as well as the game but when I log into the Mega app I am not able to play the game. Can someone please give me a walkthrough on how to play? Thank you!

Hi, absolutely loving your game so far, been blazing through it and having a great time!
Along the way I found some bugs (some of which you already fixed by the time I got to posting this):
  • The quest where you need to defeat Camerupt completes the wrong quest (it instead completes Perfect Beverage).
  • The quest where a guy wants three berries in Farnlor crashes the game when you turn it in.

Two notes of feedback:
  • The Starter selection is a bit unbalanced in terms of early power and typings, though it's not an issue for very long.
  • The Desert being full of ghost-y things kicking you out during night is a pain for someone like me, who only has time to play during evenings/nights. I can get around it by manually changing my system clock, but it's still an unnecessary pain. Some NPCs implied ways to make them go away, though, but nothing obvious(?).

As for the praise:
  • Love the selection of available Pokemon per route, it's a good, wide variety without being full of too many different species. Makes teambuilding fun without becoming a case of handpicking your usual favourites from every other game (which gets dull and same-y). Very good balance struck there!
  • Being given an option to skip the most annoying Gym puzzles after a few tries is a godsend, big kudos for that.

Just started playing and I'm about 2 hours in, really like the game so far. Just 2 things to note.
1. Some of the music is pretty good, any chance you post the soundtrack somewhere?
2. I'm getting a lot of lag whenever I walk or run through tall grass. It happens on both fancy and fast performance mode. This doesn't happen to me on any other game/Pokemon rom hack I play, so I'm not sure what's causing it.
Edit: never mind, the lag fixed itself after I restarted the game.

Joytokey or AntimicroX is not working for me. I have been using reWASD for years with lil to no problems. Is it possible to do a patch that will make this game compatible with a controller?

I just downloaded this game and opened it for the first time.
It looks really dope.
Is there an increased shiny rate?

  • Freeze has been changed to work like Frostbite from Legends Arceus.

sport-Ball-2.png

RIVAL-Diana.png

Hello, i recently downloaded the game via RPG-maker-launcher. There was an error that popped up once I exported as a standalone app. It said "Failed to update mkxp.json: Expecting property name enclosed in double quotes: line 2 column 5 (char 6)". When I booted the game, the text was cut in half. Anyone got a clue as to why?

One small thing is that, when I try playing the game on the Steam Deck, it takes a bit longer than other games (Pokemon Anil takes ~1 sec but this game takes 7-8 sec to the splash screen), and somehow gamepad controller is not working at first. I need to manually configure the gamepad profile for it. But so far still a great game. Thank you.

Came here after watching HeroVoltsy's video. The game is so interesting, and the sprites and the visuals are chef's kiss! Although I just wanna ask if the game can be played on Mac too? Nevertheless, my sincerest congratulations to the developers! Woohoo!

Love the game so far, but I have a question. I shiny hunted for my starter and got shiny Sewaddle pretty quickly. However instead of its normal shiny colors its pink and blue. I assumed this was intentionally changed to look cooler, but its overworld following sprite occasionally flickers back to its original shiny colors, especially when walking out of towns (or Gardenia at least), so now I don't know what to think. Is it just a visual glitch?

Updated the game to v1.0.3
The download on the OP has been updated to match. This update fixes some more bugs 🐛

Changes
  • Swapped the levels at which Togepi and Togetic learn Draining Kiss (Lv 7 > Lv 16) and Disarming Voice (Lv 16 > Lv 7).
  • Fast Performance now disables the grass animation, in hopes of improving performance.
  • Adjusted some dialogue.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed Leech Seed crashing the game against certain foes that are immune to status ailments.
  • Fixed Zimbani Sailor getting stuck on the Player.
  • Fixed Razor Fang not being able to be used as an item.
  • Fixed visual glitches
  • Fixed Camerupt quest completing the wrong quest.
  • Fixed bugs related to the Protein, Protein, Protein quest that caused the game to crash.

Wow, thanks for all the feedback! It really means a lot to me ;;
I'll defo try looking into a way to deal with the nighttime ghosts, as I can understand it being frustrating for players that can only play in evenings!

The game's music sources can all be found on the OP under the Audio Credits. The in-game jukebox will also display the music origin for any song.

That's a super shiny! It's a sorta "rarer than rare" shiny Pokemon, so congrats! And yeah, the flicker is a small visual glitch. Not to much to be done about that.

Is there a way to manually go in to change the specific starters at all? Was doing some randomizers just to see what I could get early on and actually got a Shedinja (my favorite pokemon) but the game crashed before I could save and the randomizer reset upon loading back in. Was just wanting to go in and possibly change one of the starters to Shedinja.

So just got to the guy that will fix the Ukulele, went to get the pichu from my PC and some reason its not there anymore
