Welcome to the celestial land of Tenno! Known for its futuristic technology and advanced space program, the Tenno Region thrives thanks to the ambitions and benevolence of Team Planetary, an organization dedicated to the region's betterment. You start your Pokémon journey in the Tenno Region like many other trainers, but soon you and your childhood friend/rival witness a more sinister side of Team Planetary. They steal property and take Pokémon, all supposedly in the name of saving the region. Can the ends justify the means? As the only witnesses to these heinous acts in a region that idolizes the villains, it’s up to you to stop them while striving to become the Tenno Champion. Blast off on an out-of-this-world journey of astronomical proportions!
sol-version-switch-2-cover-2.png
Pokémon Sol Version is a fan project that aims to create a traditional Pokémon experience using Pokémon Essentials on RPG Maker XP. It is a part of the Cosmic Quest Project, and is technically the "third version" to the hypothetical Luna and Terra Versions. Currently released is a work-in-progress beta test/demo. What's a beta/demo? I explain in detail here. The main campaign is essentially complete and you can play the entire story up until the credits roll, but there is currently no post-game content. That will come in future updates, as discussed here. But, feel free to keep on exploring the region and completing missed optional content until then.

Important Notes
  • This game is in beta and is an unfinished product. While playing, expect to encounter glitches and game crashes. If you do, please report them, as explained in the "Reporting Issues" section below.
  • Due to the chances of encountering a game crash, I recommend saving your game frequently, especially before and after difficult or important battles or after long story events.
  • The game is essentially complete up until the credits roll. That means you can play the entire main story, but there are no post-game elements added yet. Future updates to come.
  • This game is designed to be a traditional and authentic Pokémon experience. It will not contain features common to fan games, such as a speed-up button.
  • This game is designed to play more like the earlier Pokémon games (Gens I through V), rather than the more modern ones. As such, it may require more effort and thought to beat than you might be used to from modern Pokémon games.
  • The game features the classic version of Exp. Share, rather than the modern version which distributes experience among all Pokémon in the party automatically. An Exp. All item, which functions like the modern Exp. Share, does exist in the game, but it is a reward for a side quest that spans the entire region and cannot be obtained until the very end of the game. It is better to think of it as a post-game item.
  • One aspect of real Pokémon games that could not be replicated by this game is interactions with other players. This means it would usually be impossible to evolve Pokémon that require being traded. However, if you want to evolve such a Pokémon, just show a Pokémon that evolves through trade to the woman on the second floor of any Pokémon Center and she'll give you a special item that can evolve these Pokémon instead.
  • Certain aspects of this game may be incompatible with JoiPlay. I have received reports of graphic display issues, random lag, and missing sound effects, all coming from JoiPlay, rather than any specific issue with the game.
  • JoiPlay prevents players from skipping the opening movie. Players using JoiPlay should either delete or rename the folder titled "Movies" within their "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. This will cause the game to automatically skip the movie. This will have to be done every time the game is updated.

Download v0.1.7 Here
(Updated 9/10/25)
No Hotfix Currently Required

If you need help getting things working after downloading from this link, see here for instructions. Once you've downloaded the most recent version, apply the the most recent hotfix (if applicable) as explained below.

Update Instructions: If you've already downloaded an older version of Sol Version and are looking to update, simply delete your outdated "Pokémon Sol Version" folder and download the current version from the above link. Your save data will transfer over automatically.
Hotfix Instructions: If and only if there's a hotfix download link listed below the regular download link, then you'll need to apply the hotfix to Sol Version to play the most up-to-date version. Click the link to download a file called "Game.rgssad" and move that file into your "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. When it asks you if you want to replace the existing file, say yes. Now your game is up to date. You should always try to have to most recent hotfix applied to your game. If you've just installed Sol Version for the first time and a hotfix is available, you should apply the hotfix right away.

Reporting Issues
As this is a work-in-progress beta build of the game, expect to find glitches and other issues. Please report any issues you come across while playing. You can report them here, or send me an email at CosmicQuestProject@gmail.com. As much information as you can provide on the context of the issue, as well as screenshots if possible, is very helpful. If there's an error message, a picture or copy of the exact message would be of great assistance. The game's error log, with a list of all error messages you've received can be located in your file explorer under Users>[Your Name]>AppData>Roaming>Pokémon Sol Version. AppData is only visible if you first click the "View" tab, and then check the box labeled "Hidden Items." From there, you can copy and paste the exact error message, with the newest errors on the bottom. It is my hope that working together we can remove all of the issues that remain undiscovered in this game and we can move it ever closer to a final release.

Known Issues
  • Sometimes when an ability's name displays in battle, it will instead display the name of the Pokémon's other ability. This is a purely visual bug. The proper ability is still activating.
  • Sometimes the game will crash when transitioning from the opening movie to the title screen. If this happens, you can simply relaunch the game and skip the movie to circumvent the crash.
  • A handful of Tenno Pokémon are still a work in progress and do not yet have certain graphics. For a complete list of Pokémon missing some or all of their graphics, see here.
  • Any Mega Evolved Pokémon not listed here is not yet available in the game, even if a Mega Stone is obtainable. The Mega Stone is a placeholder and will not work.

Mystery Gift
Sol Version has a rotation of Mystery Gift distributions. To learn how to unlock the Mystery Gift feature in Sol Version, see here. The currently running Mystery Gift is a special Galapaglobe. This Earth-themed Pokémon has its Hidden Ability, Cold Blooded, as well as Seismic Toss as an event-exclusive move. Only available until October 3rd, 2025!

Does anyone know where I can find a shiny stone? My Calumba evolution is long overdue.

Also how do I start to complete the food request? Is the quest post game? Thank you!!

The Shiny Stone is found in the Tropical Zone of the Park Zone.

By food request, do you mean the various quests with NPCs asking you to give them certain food items? If so, this is actually a trade quest. Give one person the food they want, and they'll reward you with another kind of food. To start the chain, you have buy a Kanaveral Ice Cream from outside the Cape Space Center at Kanaveral City and give it the player character's mom, who will give you another food item that you can trade with someone else.

Thank you very much! I finally found the shiny stone. As for the food request, I did complete player mom request but I'm I missing any NPC to talk to? I'm about to get my final badge before victory road. Any hint is helpful. Thank you!!

P.S. You made an amazing game! I loved the story and characters. Especially, the character development between our main characters. Looking forward to facing the Elite 4 :D

Oh, let me tell you something, without spoiling too much: when you get to the E4, at some points, it might feel like a walk in the park, but by the time you get to the champion... Pick a god and pray. Like, they're so tough, they'd make Cynthia look like a rookie (for me, at least)

And also, real quick, it popped into my head: if people start out the game by the time the Bloodmoon Ursaluna mystery gift is gone, are you gonna put a Bloodmoon Ursaluna as a static encounter somewhere or is it gonna be gone forever?

The food side quests are scattered about the world. After the one with mom, there's an NPC who wants Lava Cookies that can be found inside the Atmos Airport.

Just in case you want it, here's a complete list of every food quest NPC in order:
  • Kanaveral Ice Cream: Mom at Launch Town
  • Lava Cookie: Woman in Atmos Airport
  • Pewter Crunchies: Birdkeeper outside restaurant in Orbitz City
  • Rage Candy Bar: Preschooler at Starside City
  • Big Malasada: Fisherman in Ort City Pokémon Center
  • Old Gateau: Man inside house at Crater Town
  • Jubilife Muffin: Poké Fan in Opti City
  • Lumiose Galette: Rich woman in villa at Rest Stop
  • Shalour Sable: Rich Boy at Versal City Beach
  • Castellia Cone: Man standing next to Kanaveral Ice Cream stand in Kanaveral City
And happy to hear you're enjoying the story. Crafting meaningful and complex story and characters was one of my primary goals with this game. Thanks.

Was it really that difficult? I can't say that was my intention. But I can't say I don't want it to be a challenge either. Believe it or not, I actually significantly weakened the Champion from the initial power level when I was doing balance testing.

I'll likely have reruns of Bloodmoon Ursaluna in the future, so it won't be completely impossible to obtain, but I want to keep it exclusive to Mystery Gift distributions for continuity reasons. After all, it's currently heavily implied that there's only one Bloodmoon Ursaluna in the entire world, and it comes from Kitakami, so it would be hard to justify there being another identical one in Tenno. It's my guess that that's how Game Freak will handle it in future Pokémon games as well. Also, the fact that you can get a regular Ursaluna in the game means that you don't need Bloodmoon for Pokédex purposes, so I think it's fine like this.

Well, to be fair, I was under-leveled (like, iirc, mid to late 50s) by the time I got to the league and forgot to train, thinking I could bulldoze through 'em (as a certain Poketuber once said, what a fool I was)
And also, I had to use Heliosol as my Cosmic Power + Leftovers staller to heal my team and weaken the champion's ace
Honestly, that's on me. Had I spent my time training, I wouldn't have struggled as much
But, hey, at least, I got an Adamant Velocivity out of my "goin' in, guns blazin'" attitude, and that's great, since I assume there are no nature mints, let alone ability capsules/patches

I personally find stuff more fun when you go in under-leveled. That's a big part of the reason why I didn't want the Exp. All to be easily obtainable in the game. So, I suppose you encountered the intended experience.

There are no mints. I'll probably have the Ability Capsule available in the post game, but not the Ability Patch, as I'd rather Hidden Abilities remain a special and valuable mechanic, rather than one available for any Pokémon in-game.

Sorry, I built this game with the traditional Pokémon experience in mind. I wanted it to feel like you're playing a real Pokémon game as much as possible, and a speed-up button is something you would never see in an official Pokémon game.

They would be in Opti City. But also, you can change moves from your party (just go to your mon's move list and press the button that allows you to interact with stuff), although you can't delete HM moves from your party. The move deleter does that for you

Woah, you've found a mechanic I didn't know existed in my own game. That's a tad embarrassing. It seems like the plugin I use to add Gen IX Pokémon, moves, and abilities to the game also added the Gen IX move remembering and forgetting mechanics. As far as I can tell, they don't advertise this functionality on the plugin's resource page, so I never knew.

Move forgetting doesn't matter that much, if it really doesn't work on HM moves like you say, but move remembering from the menu (especially for free) is not an intended feature, as the game was built around the idea of using Heart Scales to pay the Move Reminder to remember moves. I'm going to have to remove this in the next update.

I'm sure there will be people who won't like this change, and I apologize ahead of time to those people, but please understand that this was never it was supposed to work this way, as evidenced by the fact that there is a Move Reminder in the game who would be completely pointless if you could just remember moves at any place or time for free. I generally prefer it when things in games have cost, including move remembering. I firmly believe it makes the experience more rewarding in the end.

v0.1.6 Update

It's been a bit since the last update to Sol Version at this point, and as I predicted, the issue reports have gone way down recently, so this is going to be a relatively small update compared to the past few. However, this update does have on minor content update worth mentioning. Like last time, from this point forward, expect updates to come even less frequently.

Note that if you downloaded v0.1.5 from the original MediaFire link, that the update checker in Sol Version will not direct you to the correct download link anymore, so you'll have to manually use the new link. Once you've downloaded the game from the current Google Drive link, the update checker will once again direct you to the proper place to update the game.

Mystery of the Keystone Hints

The "Mystery of the Keystone" side quest requires you to go on a hunt across the region in order to find 32 mysterious Mediums and Sages. To tell the truth, I've never quite liked how this quest turned out. I liked the idea of the hunt, but the fact that you can only start it towards the end of the game means you are required to recheck the entire region to find them. I love a good treasure hunt, but only when you can hunt as you're exploring the areas for the first time. Having to go back and check every nook and cranny that you've already checked isn't as great. Well, to alleviate that issue, I've added a new NPC that give you hints on where to find each Medium and Sage, removing the need to search blindly if you don't enjoy that sort of thing.

Once you begin the "Mystery of the Keystone" quest, you'll find a new Medium standing outside of the Ort City graveyard. She is not one of the 32 you're hunting for. But she does have the ability to sense where those 32 are. Ask her, and she'll provide you with a hint as to the location of one of the Mediums or Sages that you have yet to find. She won't tell you exactly where to go, but if you think about her cryptic words, you'll be able to find the locations much easier than before. Once you've found the one she hinted about, she'll have a new hint for you.

Changelog
  • Added an NPC at Ort City to give hints for the "Mystery of the Keystone" side quest.
  • Added party preview sprites for Malworm, Pterabite, and Carapice.
  • Removed some unintended usage of various Gen IX mechanics where things were meant to work with more traditional mechanics instead.
  • Fixed two tiles beneath the Cycling Road on Route 7 that would cause a softlock if you stepped on them.
  • Fixed the balloon docks at each Balloon Trip location so they can't be walked off the side of.
  • Fixed the interaction with various other tiles around the region.
  • Corrected miscellaneous typos across the game.
  • As the single most important update this game has ever received, I've replaced the outdated Nintendo Switch in the player character's room with a Switch 2. Now there's no need to be embarrassed about being so behind the times.

How To Get TM On Frostover Island I Keep Getting Close But Keep Getting Miss Shot Or Massed Up I Need Help For That

There's a couple different TMs there, do you mean the one that's in the middle of the final ice slide puzzle?

To get that one, you need to slide in such a way that you jump over two of the one-way ledges that are right next to each other in a row. Once you've hit the far right wall after jumping the two ledges, slide back to the left and the right-most of one-way ledges will block you. Once it's done that, you can move up to get to the TM.

what side quest for getting nucleaction i need to start side quest and don't know what trigger side quest

There's not a quest, but there's an NPC in the reactor room of the Starcore Underground who will tell you that he'll give you a special Pokémon if you talk to him after defeating Neutrina.

New Hotfix
I was just made aware of a bug that prevents you from continuing on in the story if you lose either the battle against Cosmo or Orion in the Shooting Star Chamber during the Starstreak Mountains story event. This hotfix will repair that issue.

If you have encountered this problem, make sure that you save your game outside of the Shooting Star Chamber before you update your game. Loading a save file that has encountered this issue inside the Shooting Star Chamber will lead to unintended behavior.

Also, this is the first time I've had to put out a hotfix since changing the location of the download, so be sure to find the new hotfix download link in the original post.

Changelog
  • Repaired an issue that would prevent story progress if the player lost either battle in the Shooting Star Chamber during the Starstreak Mountains event.

Mystery Gift Reminder:
The Bloodmoon Ursaluna Mystery Gift distribution ends September 3rd at 11:59 PM PDT. You've only got just over five days left to grab this exclusive Pokémon if you haven't already. Don't miss out!

Mystery Gift Announcement:
And, with one distribution ending, it’s time for another to begin. So far, we’ve had Larvesta to celebrate the Sun and Ursaluna for the Moon. So, it’s only fitting that the third Mystery Gift distribution rounds out the trio and represents the Earth.

Starting September 4th until October 3rd, you’ll be able to grab the World Turtle Pokémon, Galapaglobe, through Mystery Gift. Not only will this Galapaglobe hold the special Preview Ribbon only distributed during the beta test period of Sol Version, but it will also have its Hidden Ability Cold Blooded. This is currently the only way to get a Galapaglobe with this ability. This Earth-themed Pokémon will also have a move set featuring its Signature Move Earth Shatter, as well as Earthquake, Earth Power, and Seismic Toss, a move that is otherwise impossible for a Galapaglobe to know. Fun fact: The Japanese name of Seismic Toss is actually Earth Throw, allowing it to fit perfectly into the theme of the move set.

Thank you Bguy7 and Ironman55555 for giving me wonderful advice's. I forgot the most important rule in Pokemon: Enter all building and talk to everyone 🤦‍♀️

You were right Ironman55555, the champion battle was not easy. Thankfully my MVP and starter Soulrtle came though for me again :)

I had a blast playing this game, and I can't wait for the post game to be completed.

Looking forward to playing other games you create Bguy7 🤩

Can't say I have any other games planned, as this one is nearly 10 years in the making. Regardless, glad you enjoyed this one. Thanks!
