Welcome to the celestial land of Tenno! Known for its futuristic technology and advanced space program, the Tenno Region thrives thanks to the ambitions and benevolence of Team Planetary, an organization dedicated to the region's betterment. You start your Pokémon journey in the Tenno Region like many other trainers, but soon you and your childhood friend/rival witness a more sinister side of Team Planetary. They steal property and take Pokémon, all supposedly in the name of saving the region. Can the ends justify the means? As the only witnesses to these heinous acts in a region that idolizes the villains, it’s up to you to stop them while striving to become the Tenno Champion. Blast off on an out-of-this-world journey of astronomical proportions!
sol-version-switch-2-cover-2.png
Pokémon Sol Version is a fan project that aims to create a traditional Pokémon experience using Pokémon Essentials on RPG Maker XP. It is a part of the Cosmic Quest Project, and is technically the "third version" to the hypothetical Luna and Terra Versions. Currently released is a work-in-progress beta test/demo. What's a beta/demo? I explain in detail here. The main campaign is essentially complete and you can play the entire story up until the credits roll, but there is currently no post-game content. That will come in future updates, as discussed here. But, feel free to keep on exploring the region and completing missed optional content until then.

Important Notes
  • This game is in beta and is an unfinished product. While playing, expect to encounter glitches and game crashes. If you do, please report them, as explained in the "Reporting Issues" section below.
  • Due to the chances of encountering a game crash, I recommend saving your game frequently, especially before and after difficult or important battles or after long story events.
  • The game is essentially complete up until the credits roll. That means you can play the entire main story, but there are no post-game elements added yet. Future updates to come.
  • This game is designed to be a traditional and authentic Pokémon experience. It will not contain features common to fan games, such as a speed-up button.
  • This game is designed to play more like the earlier Pokémon games (Gens I through V), rather than the more modern ones. As such, it may require more effort and thought to beat than you might be used to from modern Pokémon games.
  • The game features the classic version of Exp. Share, rather than the modern version which distributes experience among all Pokémon in the party automatically. An Exp. All item, which functions like the modern Exp. Share, does exist in the game, but it is a reward for a side quest that spans the entire region and cannot be obtained until the very end of the game. It is better to think of it as a post-game item.
  • One aspect of real Pokémon games that could not be replicated by this game is interactions with other players. This means it would usually be impossible to evolve Pokémon that require being traded. However, if you want to evolve such a Pokémon, just show a Pokémon that evolves through trade to the woman on the second floor of any Pokémon Center and she'll give you a special item that can evolve these Pokémon instead.
  • Certain aspects of this game may be incompatible with JoiPlay. I have received reports of graphic display issues, random lag, and missing sound effects, all coming from JoiPlay, rather than any specific issue with the game.
  • JoiPlay prevents players from skipping the opening movie. Players using JoiPlay should either delete or rename the folder titled "Movies" within their "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. This will cause the game to automatically skip the movie. This will have to be done every time the game is updated.

Download v0.1.7 Here
(Updated 9/10/25)
No Hotfix Currently Required

If you need help getting things working after downloading from this link, see here for instructions. Once you've downloaded the most recent version, apply the the most recent hotfix (if applicable) as explained below.

Update Instructions: If you've already downloaded an older version of Sol Version and are looking to update, simply delete your outdated "Pokémon Sol Version" folder and download the current version from the above link. Your save data will transfer over automatically.
Hotfix Instructions: If and only if there's a hotfix download link listed below the regular download link, then you'll need to apply the hotfix to Sol Version to play the most up-to-date version. Click the link to download a file called "Game.rgssad" and move that file into your "Pokémon Sol Version" folder. When it asks you if you want to replace the existing file, say yes. Now your game is up to date. You should always try to have to most recent hotfix applied to your game. If you've just installed Sol Version for the first time and a hotfix is available, you should apply the hotfix right away.

Reporting Issues
As this is a work-in-progress beta build of the game, expect to find glitches and other issues. Please report any issues you come across while playing. You can report them here, or send me an email at CosmicQuestProject@gmail.com. As much information as you can provide on the context of the issue, as well as screenshots if possible, is very helpful. If there's an error message, a picture or copy of the exact message would be of great assistance. The game's error log, with a list of all error messages you've received can be located in your file explorer under Users>[Your Name]>AppData>Roaming>Pokémon Sol Version. AppData is only visible if you first click the "View" tab, and then check the box labeled "Hidden Items." From there, you can copy and paste the exact error message, with the newest errors on the bottom. It is my hope that working together we can remove all of the issues that remain undiscovered in this game and we can move it ever closer to a final release.

Known Issues
  • Sometimes when an ability's name displays in battle, it will instead display the name of the Pokémon's other ability. This is a purely visual bug. The proper ability is still activating.
  • Sometimes the game will crash when transitioning from the opening movie to the title screen. If this happens, you can simply relaunch the game and skip the movie to circumvent the crash.
  • A handful of Tenno Pokémon are still a work in progress and do not yet have certain graphics. For a complete list of Pokémon missing some or all of their graphics, see here.
  • Any Mega Evolved Pokémon not listed here is not yet available in the game, even if a Mega Stone is obtainable. The Mega Stone is a placeholder and will not work.

Mystery Gift
Sol Version has a rotation of Mystery Gift distributions. To learn how to unlock the Mystery Gift feature in Sol Version, see here. The currently running Mystery Gift is a special Galapaglobe. This Earth-themed Pokémon has its Hidden Ability, Cold Blooded, as well as Seismic Toss as an event-exclusive move. Only available until October 3rd, 2025!

I went back and checked every room that was open on the previous floors but couldn't find any key cards.

After completing floor 20, you unlocked access to yellow security doors. On floor 10 there was a yellow security door in the bottom left corner of the main lobby leading to the "Overseer Quarters." There's a keycard in there. If this door did not open or there's no keycard in there, then we have an issue.

I apparently checked every door except for that one, I didn't see it somehow. The keycard was in there, thank you.

Since it looks like I might not be able to fix this one right away, I wanted to let it be known that the final boss of the story climax event currently has some issues. You can defeat it in theory, but the system is a bit broken, and the lower HP it has, the less damage it will take. Depending on how it heals, this may cause problems with its healing outpacing the damage you can inflict, creating issues in actually defeating it. I have defeated it in tests, but it is awkward. This is due to strange behavior from a plugin I'm using that was created by someone else. I have reached out the creator of the plugin in hopes of finding a solution. If this doesn't work, then I will have to use an alternate system which will require some work on my part to get properly balanced. The fix will likely be no earlier than tomorrow.

hello where do you find nucleation in the game ?I want to take it but it appears in an unknown area i don’t find this Pokémon

In the Starcore Underground where the nuclear reactor is, there was a guy that said he would give you something if you beat Neutrina. He'll give you Nucleactor if you return after completing the gym.

Okay, thank you very much, and what about HM strength? I thought I would find it after getting the 6th badge, but I have nothing.

No problem.

Cosm City is to the west of Opti City and doesn't require any HMs to get there. I suggest taking a trip there to find what you need.

Version 0.1.2 Update

It took longer than I was hoping, but the next update is here at last. This update has a plethora of glitch fixes in addition to our first content update since Sol Version's release. Generally speaking, content updates will be few and far between beyond the larger post-game content updates, but that doesn't mean I won't add small amounts of new content here and there when inspiration strikes or I get some suggestions I want to implement.

A big focus with this update is an attempt to address the feedback I've been receiving in regards to this game's lack of an easy-to-obtain Exp. All and the grinding that results from its absence. If you haven't seen my take on this yet, let me just be clear that I want the game to have some moments where you feel the need to train. This increases the effort you have to put into winning a battle, which makes the player feel more proud of their accomplishment, and encourages the player to attempt to win a battle at the lowest level possible, making it both feel more difficult and more require more thought. As such, I do not want to get rid of the need to train against wild Pokémon altogether.

However, it is clear that many do not agree with me. As such, I have been trying to come up with a compromise to try to help everyone out. To be absolutely clear, this new feature I've made is a compromise. It will not entirely remove all training time from the game, but it will diminish it and give the player alternate options for how they train. Hopefully this keeps my vision of the game intact while also making it a more enjoyable experience for everyone. Let's dig into it.

Introducing Mighty Trainers

Mighty Trainers are a new type of trainer that can be found across the Tenno Region. A Mighty Trainer is exactly what it sounds like, a trainer who is stronger than all the other trainers in their area. You'll encounter your first one at Route 5, and after that every route you travel to will have a Mighty Trainer. Caves with trainers, such as Mt. Corona, Starcore Underground, Frostover Island, Brutal Cave, and Victory Road also have Mighty Trainers. Mighty Trainers will have Pokémon that are at a higher level than average for the area they're in, as well as more Pokémon on their team than typically encountered in that area. This makes them perfect opponents to train against. Even better, each Mighty Trainer can be rematched once per day. There are a total of 22 Mighty Trainers across the Tenno Region. They are clearly recognizable by the fact that their partner Pokémon stands next to them in the overworld. Whenever you defeat a Mighty Trainer for the first time, you'll be rewarded with a Rare Candy. Defeat 7 Mighty Trainers and you'll be given an Exp. Charm. However, this Exp. Charm has not yet reached its full potential, and will only boost experience earned in battles against wild Pokémon. To unlock its full potential, you're going to have to find and defeat all 22 Mighty Trainers, which will then allow it to boost the experience from any battle. Not only that, but once you defeat all the Mighty Trainers, every Mighty Trainer in the region will become more powerful, giving you the ultimate set of training partners. A new side quest to defeat all Mighty Trainers can be started simply by talking to any Mighty Trainer. If you would prefer to play the game with its original balance, the Exp. Charm can be turned off.

Kanaveral City Navigation

Another new feature is a whole new way to navigate your way through the streets of Kanaveral City. If you ever got lost in the massive city, or were simply too overwhelmed by it to try exploring, this update is for you. Each of Kanaveral City's streets now have a name, which can be seen by reading the street signs at each street corner. But street names are useless without a map. Kanaveral City now has map boards placed at various key points of interest across the city. Interact with the board to pull up an interactable map of Kanaveral City that will tell you where the various points of interest are in relation to the streets. Between the street signs and maps, you can now navigate Kanaveral City easier than ever before. There's also a new side quest to help you get the hang of navigating this way.

Changelog:
  • Mighty Trainers have been added across the world to train against. Also added the new side quest "All Mighties" with the goal of battling them all.
  • Navigate Kanaveral City with street signs and maps. Also added the new side quest "The Lost City" to help get the hang of the system.
  • Repaired a (rather nasty) error that was causing the final boss to take less damage the lower its health was, rendering the boss extremely difficult, if not impossible to defeat.
  • As removing the above error made the final boss much easier, it has been rebalanced to compensate.
  • (Possibly) Fixed the glitch that would sometimes cause Pokémon to lack their first ability.*
  • Fixed the function of the Cosmic Ball and Mega Ball so that they can actually be used.
  • Repaired the potential crash after battling Crate.
  • Repaired the crash when exiting through the main Den of Mega Evolution door.
  • Repaired the extendable stairs in Route 16 so that they can actually be used after using Tinker to repair the controls.
  • Fixed a handful of cases where dual-type moves weren't being treated as their second type for certain aspects of damage calculation.
  • Various other small tweaks and improvements.
*A note on the above ability fix. I was never able to recreate this glitch myself, so I cannot verify that it has been fixed. However, I did manage to fix a separate issue, which was my prime suspect in causing the missing ability glitch. If you encounter Pokémon missing their first ability after updating, please report it.

This is a bigger update, so a full redownload will be required. As of now, there are no hotfixes needed.

New Hotfix

I am pleased to announce that this should be the final hotfix for the foreseeable future. I've only been putting out hotfixes to address issues that stop progress through the game, but as of today, I have my first report of someone completely beating the game, meaning that I can now confirm that there should be no more progress-halting issues (unless I accidently introduce one in a future update). This final hotfix is for an issue that seems to only be affecting some people, possibly only those on JoiPlay.

In regards to all those progress-stopping bugs, I want to just take a moment to apologize for however they may have diminished the experience of playing the game. I really did test the game from start to finish, and I fixed every progress-stopping bug I found along the way. The thing is, after this test, I went through a period of intense upgrades to the game, and sometimes I felt certain enough in the new version of the events I created that I didn't properly test them, leading to some typos and the like going undiscovered and causing the game crashes. Plugins I downloaded after my test also caused some interference that I didn't realize would happen. I'm sorry to have let all that slip through.

Now, just because the progress-stopping bugs are gone, that doesn't mean Sol Version is bug free. Not by long shot. There's likely still plenty of issues when it comes to specific optional interactions and actions which went undiscovered by me, simply because I chose to do something else. So please, continue to report these issues as you find them. Thank you.

Changelog:

  • Fixed an issue that caused the game to crash on start up, preventing certain people from being able to play the game in the first place. (Possibly a JoiPlay exclusive issue.)
  • Repaired Cosmo's event at Planetary HQ would crash the game when speaking to him after battling the Cosmic Guardians.
  • Removed the softlock upon completing the "Shock and a Hard Place" side quest in the Starcore Underground.
  • Repaired the faulty Electric Terrain tiles in the Starcore Underground.
  • Fixed the crash that would occur when showing a Pokémon that knows Fly to the Birdkeeper on Route 16 for the "Fly High" side quest. Also tweaked the event overall to function better and allow for Fly Level 2 and 3 to be shown as well.
  • Fixed the crash that occurred when speaking to the PokéMart employee on the right side of the Pokémon League mart.

We're back to hotfix updates, so download the separate "game.rgssad" file from the hotfix download link on the main post and replace the one currently present in your "Pokémon Sol Version" folder.

Real quick, about the Mighty Trainers: do they scale up in levels every time you rematch them or do their levels remain the same? Also, whenever you try to exit the radio outside of pressing the cancel button (like the X key, in my case), it crashes. Also happens when I tried to play "Gotta Catch Em All"

The Mighty Trainers stay the same level until for rematches until you defeat all of them. Once you defeat all 22, they'll all increase in power to about that of the Victory Road Mighty Trainer.

And thanks for the report, I shall investigate.

New Hotfix

Well, when I said I should be done with hotfixes for a bit, I didn't think I'd be getting a report of an optional progress-stopping bug so fast. This one occurs in the Den of Mega Evolution. If you activate the energy tracks in a specific order, the event that allows you to progress to the lower level of the dungeon won't trigger, not just stopping progress, but also softlocking the player, as you aren't allowed to leave the dungeon. This hotfix should not only prevent that from happening, but also allow forward progress for anyone who already got stuck there. If you found yourself with the five energy tracks leading to the statue turned on, but unable to progress, get this hotfix and try again. Once you're inside the main room of the Den of Mega Evolution, the event to allow forward progress should automatically trigger.

Changelog
  • Repaired the potential softlock in the Den of Mega Evolution.
  • Fixed a crash when entering the elevator in Planetary HQ after completing the climax event.
  • Disabled opening the pause menu during the Kanaveral Gym puzzle.

Also, I've got two other things to note. First off, by request, the in-depth pages of the Tenno Pokédex on the Cosmic Quest Website have been updated to show the base stats of all Tenno Pokémon and Tennoan Forms, as well as the Egg Moves of applicable Pokémon. This is the first time this information has been made public.

And now that we've had a chance to get to know the Pokémon of the Tenno Region, I'd like to invite everyone to participate in The Year of Tenno Favorite Tenno Pokémon Poll!
There are 136 new Pokémon in the Tenno Region, as well as 19 Tennoan Forms, and I want to know what your favorites are. Just follow this link to the poll and select up to six of your favorite Tenno Pokémon and Tennoan Forms! Who knows, the results of this poll may even have an impact on the future of Sol Version. I really would appreciate your participation. Thank you.

That's great on the dex stuff, thanks for pulling that together I know that takes a bit of work to do! But will definitely be super helpful for teambuilding and all that, so thank you again! Off to vote as well. 😃

I found another "bug" . After my fight with Skyler I noticed that everyone is named Skyler.
Even the hiker, the cyclist and so on.

Oops. That would be a simple omission on my part that caused that. It should go away the next time you talk to someone with a nametag of their own. Thanks for alerting me.

I have some questions:
1- Where's the Hidden Power guy that tells you your mon's Hidden Power type?
2- Where's the move deleter? Even though you can delete some moves whenever you want, I can't seem to delete the HMs
3- Where are the scientists that give you rewards based on the amount of Meteoric Shards collected? I kinda don't really want to go all the way back to the lab, just for that
Another suggestion to add is a mark above NPCs that give you side quests. Like, an exclamation point or somethin. IF it's possible, that is
Edit: Before I forget, can I get items like the Metal Alloy & the Peat Block? I'm considering using Archaludon, if possible

New Hotfix

Not really anything to say about this one. Got a report of a nasty issue that only affects some people, but nasty enough that I needed to get a fix out.

Changelog:
  • Fixed an issue that would make it impossible to move past the title screen if you saved the game with a Shamoon in your party after participating in the stargazing event in Opti City. If this glitch has affected you, downloading this patch will allow you to resume playing the game.
  • Fixed a glitch with the Radio App that caused the game to crash if you exited out by selecting the "Close" option in the menu.
  • Fixed a glitch that had every dialogue box labeled as spoken by Skyler after battling Skyler at the Atmos Gym. If you still see this label everywhere, it will go away naturally next time you talk to someone who has a nametag of their own.
  • Fixed the move Headwind so that it no longer crashes the game when used.

1- Where's the Hidden Power guy that tells you your mon's Hidden Power type?

To be honest, I forgot about that NPC. I'll look into adding it in the next update.

2- Where's the move deleter? Even though you can delete some moves whenever you want, I can't seem to delete the HMs

Move Deleter (and Move Reminder) is in Opti City, in the building in the bottom left corner of the town.

3- Where are the scientists that give you rewards based on the amount of Meteoric Shards collected? I kinda don't really want to go all the way back to the lab, just for that

Oh, shoot. Did Pine still say that there's someone else who will give you rewards? That was my initial plan, but I had trouble with some of the logistics of making that work, so I ended up not doing it. Guess I forgot to remove the mention of it. Sorry about that.

For whatever it's worth, you can use Fly after the fourth gym, so if you're getting close to there, it's too much longer before you can Fly back to Pine's Lab.

You know though, now that I'm thinking about it again, I might have come up with a way to make it work. Possibly. I'll look into it again.

Another suggestion to add is a mark above NPCs that give you side quests. Like, an exclamation point or somethin. IF it's possible, that is

I had considered something like that before. I'll put some more consideration into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit: Before I forget, can I get items like the Metal Alloy & the Peat Block? I'm considering using Archaludon, if possible

Metal Alloy is in the Planetary HQ upper floors. The Peat Block is not in the game, as currently it features no Hisuian Pokémon, given that it's a little unclear right now if they exist in the modern day or not and I don't want to go against the lore of the franchise. I have considered making a special case for Ursaluna specifically, given that its relationship with the Moon makes it a good fit for the game, so that might change in a future update.

I'd like to report something: I can't use the Link Cable, even when I go to the party and click the Use option. Also, is there any way to know what abilities official Pokemons can have? And where can you change Rotom's forms? Or is there the Rotom Catalog? If not, is it considered to be added or are we gonna have to go to the place needed to change Rotom's forms? I kinda wanna try out some of em, especially the Light-type one

Noted. I'll look into it. Apologies for the inconvenience.

I currently don't have any way to view information on existing Pokémon. That's something I haven't been able to come up with a good solution for. It's not really something that has a place on the Cosmic Quest website, and would also take a lot of work on my part for something that is mostly information that can be found elsewhere. If nothing else, feel free to ask me any questions about abilities, and I can tell you.

Rotom can change form at the Kanaveral Department Store on the floor called "Applied Appliances."

Came with more bug reports:
1- The left vendor at the Fight floor of the Department Store crashes your game
2- When I changed Rotom's form to its Lamp form, it kept the typing, but it didn't change form and didn't learn its move
3- The Food court floor actually leads to the "It" floor and the "It" floor sends me back to the elevator (also, asking for a friend: is there another way to get "It" without getting the ridiculously difficult to get 1 million bucks or is there a way to make money fast? Like, say, mining or something?)
4- The static Heracross at the Park Zone crashes your game. I assume there are other static mons in there that also do the same. Better be safe than sorry
Before I forget, where's the Itemfinder? Need it for the ring quest
Also, I've seen those Lillie and Lance cameos. Those were nice touches I did not expect and yet accept with open arms. Although, to be fair, I probably should've expected more after meeting Looker. After those, I was like "Who's gonna be next? Cynthia? Red? Giovanni? Larry, for some reason?!"
