The story:
You come from a family of Pokemon Divers; a prestigious career only attainable by the best trainers. Orphaned as a baby and raised by Dive Corp. staff, you're given the opportunity to bypass the Dive Corporation exam requirements. But when something goes terribly wrong on the entrance exam, you're forced to retry through the traditional route - by completing the Pokemon League challenge. Along the way, you'll meet unique rivals and uncover an ancient, catastrophic event that now looms over the region a second time. Your adventure will take you not only to the depths of the ocean but further beyond than you ever imagined.
With the release of v2.0, there are now two explorable regions: Hireath and Lyreath. Both offer distinct gameplay and story hooks, detailed further below.

The Region of Hireath:

Your adventure will begin in Hireath, its (mostly) linear story taking you between the past and present in order to put a stop an impending disaster. The pacing most closely resembles that of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl's story campaign and features almost exclusively Double Battles throughout the game like Pokemon Colosseum. About 25% of the region is optional to explore, and the runtime is roughly 25-40 hours depending on your level of skill, exploration, and side-questing. The region is designed to be difficult, but not impossible. Being a fan of Nuzlocking myself, tools have been put in place and difficulty curves scrutinized. As you work through the story, its ending will set up an "epilogue" that will unfold as you continue your adventure into the second region of Lyreath.

The Region of Lyreath:

Your adventure in Lyreath will be markedly different than your time in Hireath. For starters, the region is comprised entirely of 184 Fakemon, 18 of which have Mega Evolutions. While your inventory and money will follow you into Lyreath, your Pokemon team will not. You will be starting over and experiencing the region exclusively with Fakemon; all battles are also exclusively Double Battles. Lyreath itself is designed from the ground-up to be open world, borrowing inspiration from Pokemon Emerald's open sea. Consisting of a collection of islands, Lyreath can be explored at your discretion. Level caps and level-scaling maintain the integrity of the open world gameplay. The storyline itself in Lyreath can also be tackled as you see fit. A few key story beats are immune to scaling-down (but will scale-up), keeping the narrative paced appropriately, but otherwise you are free to tackle the main objectives as you wish. While you can set sail to any island you want, you can also explore the vast ocean down below. The region has an interconnected ocean, so you can dive virtually anywhere within Lyreath's borders and seek the secrets that lie buried in the ocean depths. Approximately 50% of the region is optionally explorable, and the campaign is runtime is roughly 15-25 hours depending on your skill and meandering.

New Game+ Information:
As mentioned, your journey in Lyreath will serve something as an epilogue to the characters you meet in Hireath. I use the word "epilogue" loosely here, because there's one final feature that will unlock upon completion of your Lyreath adventure and a certain post-game side quest: New Game +
New Game + is an option that you can choose when starting a new save file, AFTER you have completed the Lyreath campaign and appropriate side quest. NG+ not only serves as a challenge that raises the game's difficulty and introduces level-scaling to Hireath's campaign, but it uniquely CONTINUES the storyline explored thus far in Hireath/Lyreath; this means story beats in the campaigns will change in NG+, certain choices made in the base game will affect your experience in NG+, and an entirely new area is the setting for the game's definitive finale. New Game+ is the "true ending" of Oxidized Gold's story. That said, the ending laid out in the base campaign of Lyreath is designed to be an appropriate ending to the overarching story, should you choose to end your time there.

This fan game was created by me, superdude001/sd001/zeromyth. No team was involved. All publicly available assets were collected over many years and are noted below. Some In-game pictures used during the credits (the ones that are not Essentials stock credits pictures), a few tileset assets (the Blimp, Observatory, and Sunken SS Actionfrog), the Ophelia trainer sprite/OV, and the Lyreath Fakemon designs are all assets I commissioned and own, so you will not find their source listed below. That said, I am ok if other creators use my assets in their fan games, with credit to Oxidized Gold. This community gave so much to me, and I want to give something back so that others can create their own special experiences, in the fullest realization possible.

Closing Remarks:
With well over 12,000 hours of development time clocked in on RPG Maker alone, I am beyond excited to share this 5+ year project with others. I'm extremely biased, but if you're looking for a memorable story that just might bring tears to your eyes, Oxidized Gold has got you covered. I'd be humbled to hear your feedback and stories. I don't lurk much on these forums, but I do have a Discord channel I've created for my game if you're interested in hanging around. There you will find many resources for the game, as well as dev-blog posts if you're interested in peeking behind the development curtain.

Thank you for reading this far! I hope to see you around, regaling me with your weathered tales, diver.
